Teos käsittelee Norjassa vuonna 2005 tehtyä poliittista päätöstä, jonka mukaan valtio maksaa hyvityskorvauksia ”menetetystä koulunkäynnistä” iäkkäille saamelaisille ja suomalaistaustaisille kveeneille. Tällä tarkoitetaan niiden henkilöiden koulunkäyntimenetyksiä, jotka eivät norjalaistamispolitiikan vuoksi saaneet opetusta omalla äidinkielellään eli saameksi tai suomeksi, ja jotka eivät sota-ajan lyhyen koulunkäynnin seurauksena oppineet kunnolla lukemaan tai kirjoittamaan norjaakaan.
Korvaukset ovat osa laajempaa hyvityskorvausjärjestelmää, jonka avulla ”valtio pyrkii selvittämään välinsä menneisyyden kanssa”. Symbolisia hyvityksiä maksamalla pyritään korvaamaan tiettyjen ryhmittymien epäoikeudenmukainen kohtelu aikaisempina vuosikymmeninä. Hyvitykset ovat osaltaan myös poliittisia anteeksipyyntöjä, jotka ovat yleistyneet kautta maailman 1990-luvun puolivälistä lähtien. Maksaminen on alkanut vuonna 2006.
Marjut Anttonen on suorittanut filosofian tohtorin ja kasvatustieteen maisterin tutkinnot Turun yliopistossa. Hänellä on etnologian dosentuuri Jyväskylän yliopistossa ja perinnetieteen, erityisesti etnisyystutkimuksen dosentuuri Itä-Suomen yliopistossa. Tällä hetkellä hän työskentelee Monikulttuurisuuden ja yhteiskunnallisen vuorovaikutuksen verkoston erikoistutkijana Turun yliopistossa.

These general conditions of sale are the only conditions that are applicable and replace all other conditions, except in the case of express, written prior dispensation. Please ensure that the product has not been used and that it is returned to us undamaged in the original packaging and all we ask is that you pay the return carriage costs. Once notified of your intent to cancel we will refund your original method of payment within 30 days. Goods received back incomplete, damaged or in any condition other than saleable will be either: returned to you with the cost of the return carriage charged to your account or refunded to your account with a 15% penalty of the initial price of the good.

3. Prices and delivery
All prices displayed on our site are inclusive of moms at the current rate and excluding of delivery costs. All our prices are given in Euros. US Dollar prices are estimates and depends on the currency exchange rate. The price stated in the order confirmation form is the definitive price, taking into account all relevant taxes, including moms. This price includes the price of the product, handling charges, packaging and transportation costs.

Upon receipt of your order, please ensure that the product is in good order. If there are any apparent faults, the buyer shall be entitled to return the product under the conditions set down in the present document. The vendor is exempted from his/her obligation to deliver in the event of war, riots, fire, strikes, accidents and in the event that he/she finds it impossible to obtain supplies. Goods are always transported at the risk of the consignee.
You must always check your package upon arrival. If goods arrive in a damaged condition it will be your responsibility to inform us within 48 hours of delivery. It is also your responsibility to check for the correct number of goods as shown on the invoice in the box. Please note that for security reasons delivery is to card/account holder’s address only.

Bank transfer payment / Payment Order (SWIFT/IBAN wire transfer): Institute of Migration offers the opportunity to pay by bank transfer. Please note that Bank transfers from abroad will only be accepted if the additional transfer costs are paid by the customer. Your payment will be processed when your bank transfer is received. Once your payment received we will dispatch your goods. The processing of off-line payments may take several days.
5. Privacy policy and Legal information
Since the details you give us are essential for the processing and delivery of orders, for billing and for the establishment of warranty contracts, failure to provide these details will result in the cancellation of your order. You have the right to change, correct and remove any data held about yourself, and can do so simply by request to our customer service. The ONLY information we collect are the details you provide to us so as we can process your order, for example, name, postal address, e-mail address and phone number. Your credit card information is not saved in our customer database or in our server. All information is collected lawfully. This information is for our internal use only and will only be used to notify you of any offers and updates. No information will be forwarded to any other companies.
6. Product availability
The order shall be fulfilled within a period of 30 days at the latest, starting from the day following that on which the customer placed the order. In the event of an ordered product being unavailable, the customer shall be informed thereof at the earliest opportunity, and shall have the option of cancelling the order. The customer shall then have the choice of requesting either a refund of the amount paid within 30 days of payment, at the latest, by email to xxxxxxxxxxx@utu.fi or a different product in its place.
The customer is required to check the condition of the packaging of the goods upon arrival, and to report any damage attributable to the carrier on the delivery note and to INSTITUTE OF MIGRATION, within a period of 48 hours.
Our web site is regularly updated to ensure that we provide accurate details on product availability and the listed time limit is regularly updated. We endeavour to ensure availability on all our advertised items is constant, however we cannot warranty availability. In the unlikely event that your chosen item is unavailable we will contact you ASAP to advise of expected delivery dates. If a product that has been ordered is still not available after the indicated waiting period has elapsed, we will contact you by e-mail or by phone in order to propose an extension to the waiting period or to suggest a different product.
7. Delivery problems and errors
Any problem with the delivery (damage, absence of a product or products listed on the delivery note, damaged package or broken products etc.) must, without fail, be reported to our customer service.
In the event of an error in delivery or exchange, any product to be exchanged or returned shall be required to be returned to INSTITUTE OF MIGRATION in its entirety, and in its original packaging, by parcel post, at the following address:

The carriage costs shall be borne by INSTITUTE OF MIGRATION, except where it emerges that the returned product does not match the original declaration made by the customer on the returns coupon.
8. Right of withdrawal
The customer shall have a period of 14 working days (fourteen clear days required by law) in which to return, at his/her own expense, any products failing to meet with his/her satisfaction. This period shall run from the date on which the customer’s order was delivered. In the event of this period ending on a Saturday, Sunday or a bank holiday, it shall be extended to the first working day thereafter.
INSTITUTE OF MIGRATION Customer Service must be informed of all product returns in advance by email or by phone.
Only those products returned in their entirety, in their original packaging, complete and intact, and in perfect resale condition shall be accepted. Any product that has been damaged or whose original packaging has been damaged shall not be eligible for refund or exchange. This right of withdrawal may be exercised without penalty, with the exception of the costs of return. In the event of exercising this right of withdrawal, the customer has the choice of requesting either a refund of the sums paid, or that the product be exchanged. In the event of an exchange, the charges for shipping the new product shall be borne by the customer.
Where the right of withdrawal is exercised, INSTITUTE OF MIGRATION shall make every effort to reimburse the customer within 30 days. The customer shall then be reimbursed by means of a credit to his/her bank account (secure transaction) in the event of payment by bank card, or by cheque in all other cases.
We will replace, refund or repair faulty products if they are deemed to be faulty on arrival. Please note that you should contact our customer service before returning the product to us.

9. Legislation
This contract shall come under Finnish law. We cannot be held liable for any kind of damages, material, immaterial or corporal, that arise as a result of the malfunctioning or misuse of commercial products. Our liability shall, in any case, be limited to the setting up of the order and we may not be held liable in the event of simple errors or omissions which may occur in spite of all the precautions taken in presenting the products. In the event of a dispute, our customer services division is at your disposal with the aim of reaching the fairest, amicable settlement. Failing this, the appropriate Finnish court shall be the only court with jurisdiction to rule on such disputes, regardless of the place of delivery or accepted method of payment.
